It’s been said that Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but it’s also true that blondes (and brunettes and redheads, for that matter) prefer gentlemen. That’s right guys, chivalry isn’t dead. Opening a door for a woman, pulling out her chair at a restaurant, or offering your jacket if she’s cold goes a long way in our books. So men, take heed, and if you feel you need to brush up on your manners, you can start by at least looking the part. Channel iconic Old Hollywood gentlemen like Cary Grant with the plethora of mid-century accessories that are back in style in a big way. Suspenders, bow-ties, pocket squares, tie bars and fedoras have all been given a makeover a la 2010 and are showing up in magazines and on red carpets everywhere. Simplicity is the key to pulling of this look. Unless you feel like you’ve mastered trend-conscious, experimental fashion, I suggest wearing no more than two of these accessories at once. We want you to look GQ, not geriatric. So the next time you spot a pretty lady on the street, simply open the door for her, tip your fedora her way and say “after you”. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
